Bellydance X Pilates Collaboration with Discover Dance UK...


I was thrilled to collaborate with Anita from Discover Dance UK for a special Bellydance and Pilates combination online workshop last night via Zoom! We had a great turn out- a real mix of avid bellydancers, Pilates fans and even those who were trying both for the first time.


For those of you who didn't know, I have been a passionate bellydancer for around a decade now and whilst I don't get the opportunity to perform much these days (obviously not at all during this current pandemic!) I miss the ambient Arabic music, the glamorous costumes and those good vibe endorphins that dancing can bring. Pilates and bellydance have a lot of similarities- both are focused on the core, posture, strength and the mind-body connection so it was only a matter of time before we thought to blend the two for this 'Belly-lates' 2 in 1 class. Core engagement and breathing translates well to the 'omi' move in bellydance, and I taught mini backbends in preparation for floor work which was used in the short bellydance routine that Anita taught. We finished off with some cool down stretches, and a short meditation for grounding and leaving everyone feeling totally blissed out...


During the lockdown, Anita has been teaching several classes ranging from Latin Bellydance to Drum Solo technique and more- and they have worked really well via Zoom. Keeping this routine of classes, and maintaining fitness has been crucial in this time, for mental as well as physical health so we are all super grateful- thanks Anita!
